WMAC 2026 Organizing Committee, Promoting the Event with a Community-Centered Approach

The Organizing Committee for the 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics Championships conducted promotional activities on the 24th at Dongdaegu Station for travelers returning home for the Lunar New Year holidays and local citizens.

 

The World Masters Athletics Championships is overseen by the World Masters Athletics (WMA), which consists of 166 member countries. It is a global event that celebrates athletics, open to men and women aged 35 and above from all over the world.

 

On this day, 10 staff members, including the Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee, distributed promotional leaflets and souvenirs. They engaged citizens with various events, including a roulette draw for social media followers, photo opportunities with the event mascot "Dochalssu," and other fun activities, receiving positive responses from the public.

 

The 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics Championships will begin with the opening ceremony on August 21, 2026, and run for 13 days from August 22 to September 3. The event will take place at Daegu Stadium (main venue), Daegu Stadium auxiliary venue, the Athletics Promotion Center, Suseong Family Park, and Yulha Sports Park. It is expected to attract about 11,000 participants (athletes, officials, families, etc.) from over 90 countries, competing in 35 events (18 track, 11 field, 6 road).

 

 

Secretary-General Jin Ki-hoon stated, "As the event approaches next year, the Organizing Committee will move forward step by step, drawing wisdom and prudence from the year of the snake, to ensure the success of the Championships." He added, "We will continue community-centered promotional activities to raise awareness of Masters Athletics and build momentum for the event."
