A Heartfelt Thank You from Daegu

Swiss athlete sends a letter of appreciation to the WMAC Daegu 2026 Organizing Committee after arriving early to train and prepare for the Championships

Daniel Louis Meili(65) of Switzerland, a participant in the World Masters Athletics Championships Daegu 2026,sent a letter of appreciation to the Organizing Committee for the support he received before and during the Championships.

Melli arrived in Daegu early to adapt to the local conditions and was one of the first international athletes to begin training at the competition venue. Since August 10, he regularly visited the stadium to prepare for his event.

With guidance and assistance from the Organizing Committee, he was able to arrange training facilities and equipment and continued his preparations throughout the Championships.

His efforts paid off on August 25, when he won the gold medal in the Men’s M65 Hammer Throw (5kg) with a mark of 49.82m, setting a new Swiss national record.

After completing his final training session, Melli returned the hammer he had borrowed and delivered a letter of appreciation to the Organizing Committee.

“Thank you very much to everyone on the Organizing Committee for all your kind support. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you. I hope to see you again.”

Along with his letter, Melli also shared a photo from the awards ceremony and congratulated Australian athlete Philip Spivey, who won the gold medal, praising his outstanding performance.

Melli’s letter was a touching reminder of the friendship and connections that made WMAC Daegu 2026 special.
