In cooperation with Japan’s Masters Athletics, the LOC conducted on-site promotional activities.
With the Championships approaching this August, the Local Organizing Committee(LOC) for the World Masters Athletics Championships Daegu 2026 (WMAC Daegu 2026) has launched a promotional campaign in Fukuoka, Japan to attract international athletes and build global excitement for the Championships.
On May 5th, the LOC visited the 45th Fukuoka Masters Athletics Championships staged at the Hakatanomori Stadium in Fukuoka to promote the WMAC Daegu 2026.
Hosted by the Fukuoka Masters Athletics, the Championships was a great success, consisting of 18 events including 10 track events and 8 field events with a large number of athletics enthusiasts and athletes in attendance.
The purpose of this visit was to further boost participation in Japan, noting that Japanese athletes currently make up the largest share of international registrations for the WMAC Daegu 2026.
The LOC promotion team set up a promotional booth on-site to introduce the WMAC Daegu 2026 to athletes and officials. Along with distributing brochures, they actively encouraged on-site registration by providing detailed guidance on participation procedures and event categories.
Furthermore, the team had a meeting with officials from the Fukuoka Masters Athletics, discussing ways to strengthen cooperation between the two Championships. They requested Japan’s active support to increase the participation of Japanese athletes in the WMAC Daegu 2026.
Chin, Ki Hoon, Secretary General of the LOC for the WMAC Daegu 2026, stated, “Japan is not only geographically close but also has a very active masters athletics community, with a high level of interest in the WMAC Daegu 2026.” He added, “Building on the successful promotional result in Fukuoka, we will continue to carry out strategic promotional activities focusing on major Asian countries.”
Meanwhile, the World Masters Athletics Championships Daegu 2026 will be held for 13 days from August 22 to September 3 at the Daegu Stadium and adjacent areas. As a global festival opens to anyone aged 35 or older, the Championships is expected to see approximately 11,000 participants including athletes and their accompanying persons from over 90 countries around world.
